LLCHD's home advice
LLCHD's indoor air advice, applied to a Lincoln bedroom
- 3 months LLCHD's fallback furnace filter interval
- 30 to 50% LLCHD's recommended indoor humidity
- 402-441-8040 LLCHD Air Quality Program, 8 to 4:30 weekdays
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department's Air Quality Program, at 3131 O Street, lists home steps that reach the bedroom: vacuum with a HEPA filter, keep humidity at 30 to 50 percent, keep pets out of sleeping areas, change the furnace filter about every 3 months if the maker gives no schedule, and avoid overusing air-freshening sprays. LLCHD doesn't test homes for mold or radon, and it doesn't regulate pollen.
What does LLCHD advise, room by room?
LLCHD's "Improving Indoor Air Quality in Your Residence" list is written for the whole house. The parts of LLCHD's list that land in a bedroom are the HEPA vacuum, the 30 to 50 percent humidity range, pets out of sleeping areas, the furnace filter and fewer sprays and candles. LLCHD also suggests damp-mopping hard floors weekly and dusting hard surfaces regularly.
What does LLCHD say about MERV?
LLCHD suggests that people with asthma or allergies look at the MERV rating on the furnace and air conditioning filter, since a higher rating removes more small particles. LLCHD also warns that not every system suits a high-MERV filter and suggests checking with a heating and air conditioning professional first.
How does the daily AQI relate to the bedroom?
Lincoln's local air quality index comes from ozone, carbon monoxide and fine particle levels at monitors LLCHD operates. It says nothing about pollen, which NWU counts, or about the air in one bedroom.
Where does a mattress visit fit?
We HEPA vacuum as part of every visit, and every visit includes two checks: a moisture check after the job and the built-in bed mite sensor on our UV-C vacuum. 72-hour bedroom CO₂ testing is a separate optional service, booked on its own or added to a visit and priced by quote; it isn't a medical test. None of these is an LLCHD test. Sleep Sanitation weighs whether professional mattress sanitation is worth it.
What steps help a Lincoln bedroom?
- 1HEPA vacuum the room LLCHD lists vacuuming floors and upholstered furniture with a HEPA-filter vacuum, and emptying canisters or checking bags each time.
- 2Keep the dog out of the bedroom LLCHD's list says to keep pets out of sleeping areas and off upholstered furniture.
- 3Check the furnace filter Follow the maker's schedule; without one, LLCHD says about every 3 months.
- 4Go easy on sprays LLCHD advises against overusing air-freshening sprays, candles and aerosol products.
What do Lincoln households ask?
Does LLCHD test Lincoln homes for mold or radon?
No. LLCHD's air quality page, checked on October 3, 2026, says the department doesn't provide mold testing or remediation and doesn't sell radon kits or perform radon testing, though it can offer guidance.
Is pollen part of Lincoln's air quality index?
No. Nebraska's Department of Water, Energy, and Environment says the AQI is calculated daily from ozone, carbon monoxide and fine particles, and LLCHD publishes Lincoln's local value. LLCHD says pollen and mold aren't regulated by its Air Quality Program.
Should the dog sleep in the bedroom?
That's your household's call. LLCHD's home list, for people with asthma or allergies, says to keep pets out of sleeping areas and off upholstered furniture.
