The Lincoln academic year
Greek house mattresses in Lincoln: odor and semester turnovers
Many UNL first-year students live in University-Approved Housing fraternity or sorority houses rather than residence halls. Those houses set their own beds. Lincoln Mattress Cleaning books chapter houses and nearby apartments for odor and semester turnovers at $249 for the first mattress, any size. We do not clean UNL residence hall beds.
When this matters
2026–27 academic year
UNL Fraternity and Sorority Life publishes the list of chapters with University-Approved Housing status for the year. Only those chapters may house first-year students in the chapter facility. (UNL Fraternity and Sorority Life)
August move-in week
Chapter move-in often tracks UNL's mid-August residence hall week. Confirm with the chapter, not with University Housing. (UNL Housing (campus context))
December and May breaks
Common windows for a whole-house mattress reset between semesters, while rooms are empty. (Lincoln Mattress Cleaning practice)
Who books a Greek house cleaning?
Usually a house manager, alumni board contact or parent who can meet us at the address. We need a clear path to each mattress and an empty room when possible. Multi-mattress visits use the labeled additional rates: $199 for each additional full, queen or king and $149 for each additional kids bed (twin/full) in the same visit.
When do semester turnovers make sense?
December and May, while members are gone and bedding is stripped. August works if the house is resetting beds before new members arrive. Book ahead of the busy UNL move-in week.
What about bed mites and odor?
Bed mites (house dust mites) favor closed bedrooms. Steam heat and HEPA vacuuming are part of every visit, followed by UV-C light treatment. Every visit includes two checks: the built-in bed mite sensor on our UV-C vacuum and a moisture check after the job. 72-hour bedroom CO₂ testing is optional and priced by quote. Science and limits live in Sleep Sanitation's dust mites and allergens hub.
What we don't know
- Each chapter's bed size and who owns each mattress. Ask the house before you book.
- Whether a chapter's UAH status changes mid-year. UNL says the approval list can change; check fsl.unl.edu.
Questions from students and parents
Do you clean mattresses inside a fraternity or sorority house?
Yes, when the chapter or a member books us for beds the house controls. Call or text (402) 512-5658 with the address, how many mattresses and the break dates.
Are Greek house beds the same size as UNL hall beds?
Not necessarily. UNL halls publish extra-long twins; chapter houses vary. Measure before you buy sheets or book underside work.
What about odor between semesters?
Pet odor and ordinary urine accidents are included in the mattress price. Severe or biohazard contamination is quoted before any work starts. The bed stays unmade until it is dry to the touch.
